How Much Does It Cost to Reroof a House?

Each house is different and it’s important to have a contractor review the property in detail to ensure that the full scope of work can be captured. To remove and replace, the cost to reroof a house is between $1.20 to $4 per square foot. This means that for an average 1,700 sq. ft. to 2,100 sq. ft. ranch style home with a gentle slope, the cost to reroof comes in between $1,700 to $8,400. If you’re planning to replace and install a wood shingle roof, the cost to reroof is between $.637 and $8.77 per square foot.

How We Determine the Cost to Reroof

In order to provide an accurate estimation of the cost to reroof a house, we’ll first need to determine the area of the roof that will be replaced. We measure the length and width of each portion of the roof and multiply in order to to get accurate numbers for each plane. With this information, we can determine how many bundles of shingles we’ll need to cover the roof and can account for the amount of waste, as well.
